A quality setting doesn't change the video's resolution, it changes the detail depth that is in the recording. Resolution is what you call "smaller screen". Both recordings show hazy looking letters in Excel. What's frustrating is that both OBS and default SnagIT videos do not give clear pictures of the words in Excel in their recordings. I don't know if that will make a difference in sharpness of letters. In Video I am using Downscale Filter of "Area (weighted sum, 4/6/9 samples) instead of OBS' default of Bicubic 16 samples. So I'm surprised at your advice: " If Excel runs on your 1680x1050 monitor, then set OBS to 1680x1050" Yes, I am using Simple and High Quality, medium file size. created a larger screen area similar to SnagIT, therefore bigger fonts - so the words are clearer. 1680x1050 created a smaller file but most importantly it created a smaller screen area, therefore smaller fonts - so the words are harder to see. Ok, then I will assume that you want me to save to mkv format. (Rich says to use "Simple, so I guess I should not use Advanced's CQP or CRF options) Just curious - What do you do for a living, may I ask. You are very kind to take time to help us. My monitor shows my Excel sheet words very clearly. What else can I do to improve the clarity of small fonts? If you look at the attached "VLC for snagit vs OBS seems the same quality.png" you will see that the clarity is bad.

But when I record I had to set both Base and output resolution to 1920 to get as good quality as what SnagIt can deliver. My external monitor has resolution of only 1680 x 1050. I guess need high quality video to display small text. It's important that the recording be of high enough resolution to display tiny words in Excel sheet.
#SNAGIT SCREENSHOT SHOWS BLURRY IN BLOG POST MP4#
It has a screen shot from our mp4 that I recorded. VLC for snagit vs OBS seems the same quality.png Please see my comparision where I compare the mp4 of SnagIT vs OBS in: I finally was able to make a OBS recording ,of an Excel sheet, that is also as good as Snagit's mp4 recording. OBS-Studio: High quality recording and multiple Audio Tracks :įor testing purposes, I tried to video record a stationary Excel sheet. I was trying out the configuration wizard – I selected "do not optimize for streaming as I am not streaming my video:" I have good luck with SnagIt but OBS seems really hard to configure to make the final recording in mp4 as good as SnagIT. I've seen quite a few people requesting this who also hate the blurry smeared look of bilinear filtering so it would really be appreciated.I just want to record a Zoom meeting where excel and programming scripts with small fonts are displayed.

So basically in an ideal world we would have an updated version of 4.0 with the option to turn off all filtering and/or enable force point-sampled filtering on all objects and surfaces. However the cropping method in the older builds is nowhere near as versatile as the overscan method in 4.0 which lets you cut out any unwanted screen space with total control. This allowed me to crop the image a bit to get a slightly larger display area. Now I did manage to randomly find an old build of GLideN64 (rev.365838e) that let me disable the filtering. A bunch of objects and surfaces have ugly blurred textures with visible tile seams: Here it is on GLideN64 4.0 using N64 style 3 point. So for games like Mischief Maker you are stuck with a pretty small display area with big black bars all around. Looks how it should, with sharp unfiltered pixels on all objects and surfaces:īut the problem using Glide64 is you cant crop or overscan the image. Here's Mischief Makers running with force point-sampled on Glide64 Final.

Just makes the whole experience look very ugly. Games like Mischief Makers and Paper Mario suffer greatly from the inconsistency of blurred and sharp textures. All GLideN64 needs is an option for force point-sampled filtering like Glide64 had. I understand having filtering is the authentic experience but the option for those that would like to emulate games totally unfiltered would be extremely appreciated. I'd also like to add that I would love for this option to be implemented, can't stand blurry textures or bilinear filtering.
